what segment of cars do you hate and wish the world can be free of? well now your dreams can be a reality! *only in oppo* if you were to pick one car segment you hated and wanted to rid the world of, what would it be?

personally for me it would be the cheap luxury car segment, which is basically telling the world I only care about the badge on the front of my car. the manufactures that make these cars understand that too, and therefore those cars are poor in quality and driving feel and do not stick true to their manufacture’s roots. (X1, Cla, Gla)

None. Having options is a good thing, even if they’re not great.

I was thinking about that too. in fact, it was seeing the newly revealed GLC coupe that made me think about this question to ask

nice philosophy. but with the cheap luxury cars segment, I just feel that there are many better options for that price. I mean if people just want a badge, then go for it.

yes true, most hypercars never get over 70 miles per hour in their lifetime sadly. the whole segment was flawed to begin with. building a fast road car. but the road is regulated, and usually slow with traffic.

Hell to the No.

Hypercars are such a small segment of the industry, and yet killing it would only do one thing, and that is devoid so many of us of getting to lust over them.

Your argument does not stand up.

They ARE applied to the track. Racing improves the breed.

McLaren, Porsche, Ferrari, race cars are loaded with the tech you find in their hypercars.

I don’t really want to kill anything, but there are things I would like to add to the US market. More coupes, more hatchbacks, more wagons, and more SMALL pickups. Unfortunately the people have spoken, which is why we have 4 door coupes, sloped crossovers with no utility, and gigantic monolithic trucks.

Highly disagree.

Without cars like the P1/918/LaF (I’d even argue the Teslas), cars and tech relating to cars and other forms of transportation will never ever ever advance. Pollution will keep on happening, crazy weather will keep killing cute baby penguins and polar bears, hatred for our beloved autos will multiply, and then Alissa Walker will stick her articles in our collective face and say “I told you so.” :P

It’s like saying why do we need flagship smartphones? Nobody needs the fastest processor, the most RAM, or whatever. That’s true, nobody absolutely needs those stuff. But look where we’ve come from:

Kinja'd!!!

and where we are now:

Kinja'd!!!

And to bring it back to cars, this is what we thought of when we heard “hybrid”:

Kinja'd!!!

And now we have the hypercar trio which are called hybrids:

Kinja'd!!!

With all the upcoming electric hypercars, I can’t wait for that to trickle down to our pleb cars.

Hopefully within the next hundred years. :P

I guess I meant the others (Konighdhdjdameoegn, Pagani, Bugatti, and a bunch of start up s1 mil + cars that don’t race ever) Either way, KERS type technology in the Ferrari and McLaren do nothing on a street. FXX-K and GTR versions of those I totally underatand! Again, not for the regulated streets

Kinja'd!!! EL_ULY > scoob

Those cars exist as hybrid race monsters because they adapted it from racing. Racing can also develop a better Earth for all penguins while staying rad for us hoons. A tad bit difficult though for a Pagani, Bugatti , Keonignejdjdjegg, 918, P1, and other $1mil+ hypercars om regulated city streets. A road version of KERS technology can only go so far when the speed limit is 35mph. They beast tech will trickle down to us lowly humans even quicker if all these hypercar resources that are being developed go straight to racing and then straight to normal cars, jumping $1mil+ hypercars.

Though, in the sake of finding equal ground. Why not make flagship speed machines strickly like the FXX-K and the P1 GTR. A real type racecar for all the millionaire’s race car fix. Would you rather an FXX-K at Spa or Agera R through a street that features active school zones

I may be alone here, but I’d rather go out and spot million-dollar hypercar on the street than go to some race any day! Closed course racing bores me.

03/22/2016 at 22:24

Kinja'd!!!0

I know this only applies to Koenigsegg, but I’d rather the Koenigsegg as they are also doing some crazy futuristic stuff like the supposed camless engines.

But back to your point, those companies need more ways to make back the money they spent to develop new stuff, and one way that’ll happen is if their millionaire billionaire customers have a cool, if useless to us, reason to spend their money. They’d never put that tech in a little family hatchback and sell it for cheap, at least not any time soon.

Kinja'd!!! EL_ULY > sm70- why not Duesenberg?
03/22/2016 at 22:29

Kinja'd!!!0

Your not alone. My theory is a bit extreme. It’s mostly is towards the Bugatti Cheerio, Koenigshdjjsegg whatever, Pagani Whozit, and all those Hypercar start ups whose cars are over 1, 2, or 3 million dollars. To those 1,500+ HP things, all I gotta say is, prove it on a track, then thy props will be had :]

Besides, I like racing because of the teams, drivers, and competitive aspect over the cars specifically

SUVs, they’re a menace on the road. And try riding a motorcycle anywhere near them on the freeway. They don’t give a crap about you. They can all rollover and die a fiery death.

I remember (I think BMW) was experimenting with camless engines since 2004. It’s nothing new. Also, variable compression engines (head traveling of sleeves)

But any who, that tech, even if it’s a diluted form, will be rad in normal human cars. Fingers crossed

See, I’m the Opposite. I don’t much care about following drivers. If there was a racing series without so much as sponsor stickers or racing slicks, where you bought a car from the dealer, fitted it with a roll cage if the safety people insisted, and then took it to the track, I might consider watching.
